Discover the secret of Yaax Che... Come to the Mayan forest sanctuary of the Botanical Garden of Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marén.
The Mayan legend tells us that a giant Ceiba tree called "Yaax Chen" grows from the earth's center. Its trunk and braches support the sky and its roots penetrate in to the underworld, joining together the three cosmic levels of the Mayan universe: cab, caan and xibalba.
Yaax Chen is the Mayan symbol for life. You can appreciate this natural world closely when you visit our botanical garden.
Get to know the customs and traditions of the Mayan people at the "chiclero" camp and in the Mayan house.
Admire "El Altar" Mayan ruins; built in the postclassical period (1400 D.C)
