Playacar

The ancient city of Xaman-Ha, known today as Playa del Carmen, was the embarkation point for the sacred Island of Cozumel, the site of a shrine dedicated to the goddess Ixchel, the goddess of fertility.

Women from all over Yucatan came to Xaman-Ha to make the voyage in canoes. Few shrines still stand in Playa del Carmen; one being the temple in Playacar which is the most accessible.
